From City getting turned over by Wigan, to Chelsea holding their own against the mighty Barca at The Bridge, The Bulldog is here with his weekly column for BetBright… he’s also thrown in a few cheeky bets for the weekend!
Up The Latics!
How about my old club, Wigan, beating MANCHESTER CITY in the FA CUP!!
WOW – that is just an unbelievable result – I DID NOT see that coming!
I know they’re having a decent season (3rd in League One with 3 games in hand – sorry about that!) but to actually turn the mighty Man City over has to go down as one of the greatest nights in the club’s history!
They played so well and kept Pep’s boys at bay, who didn’t really create an enormous amount of chances.
Will Grigg was ON FIRE! Don’t get me wrong, it was a bad mistake from Kyle Walker to lead to the goal – I do not know what he was thinking!
But, all good finishers have to be switched on and pounce on any given mistake that the opponents make and Grigg did just that.
Wigan are a big, powerful side and I’m a big fan of the centre halves, Dunkley and Burn, who were very impressive.
I loved my time at Wigan and let me tell you, this result will give the town, the fans and the players a massive lift and hopefully, it will inspire The Latics to kick on and fight for automatic promotion.
Sessengon to Spurs?
I’ve got to be honest, I’ve kept my eye on this youngster for a while and when I was shooting ‘You Know The Drill’ for Soccer AM, he took part against me and you can just tell how naturally gifted he is.
I have a lot of close friends who are Fulham fans and they think the world of him – they’re absolutely raving about him! They think he’s the best thing to have come out of the football club!
He’s already scored 12 goals from left-back this season all out of neutral play and again, I’m not surprised to hear the rumors of a potential move to Spurs in the summer.
After some thought, if I was the boy’s Old Man, I’d think that’s absolutely the right move for him at this stage of his career. Let’s have it right, Fulham won’t let him go for nothing – the asking price will be between £30-£50 million – so if Spurs do shell out that amount of cash then there’s no way he’s not playing.
Spurs are becoming one of the biggest teams in Europe now, they’ve got a new stadium on the way, they’re building a top-class side with plenty of English talent in there and they’ve got a top, top manager. So, if the move did go ahead this summer, then I think it would be fantastic for the lad.
Chelsea Will Be Leggy At Camp Nou!
Conte’s tactics were spot on against Barcelona the other night – fair play to The Blues!
Don’t get me wrong, I understand that they hit the post twice and they created their fair share of chances. The problem is, when a team has 80% of the possession and they work the ball in and around the box in that famous Barca-way, they still look like they could score at any time.
There were a couple of half-chances that didn’t quite fall for Messi and Co. and I fear that Chelsea might not be able to ride their luck in Spain.
I can GUARENTEE Barca will dominate possession again in the second leg. The pitch at Camp Nou must be 5-10% bigger than the one at Stamford Bridge and will be much harder for Chelsea to make it compact.
Sure, Chelsea can catch them on the counter – I’m aware of that and I’m a big fan of their front three, but I just don’t think this Chelsea side have got the legs to keep Barca at bay for two legs.
I heard the likes of Rio, Stevie G and Franky Lampard after the game, emphasising how much more space there is at Camp Nou, where Barca will have ten more yards to work with to get in behind the full-backs.
This is all without mentioning that if Messi turns up on the night and sparkles, then it’s game over. Simple as that. He could score a hat-trick with his eyes closed against any one!
Chelsea have to play away at City and United before they go there and believe me, THEY WILL BE LEGGY. This run of fixtures will absolutely ruin them.
If I was a betting man, I’m afraid to say to Chelsea fans, I’d be backing Barcelona (4/9 with BetBright) to go through all day long – Chelsea are going to get Ironed out!
Come On Your Irons!
To be fair, West Ham always seem to do OK against the better teams in the league. The thing that frustrates us Hammers fans is that when we come up against mid-table teams, we always seem to slip up.
We’ve beaten Chelsea and Spurs this season, got a result against Arsenal and then we’ve been hammered by Brighton and Everton – work that one out.
The fans are second to none and you can’t question their passion for the club, so they’ll enjoy a great weekend out to Anfield, which is a proper football ground and it’ll probably be a bit of a relief to get away from the footballing politics going on at the London stadium.
I’m not saying we’ll go there and turn Liverpool over, of course not – they’re one hell of an outfit at the moment – but we’ll give them a game and I’d be backing BTTS at 10/11.
A Few Cheeky Bets For The Weekend
Wow – where else to start than Old Trafford. It’s been a war of words between Conte and Jose over the last few months and it looks like it’s going to come to a head on Sunday afternoon!
This one will be full of goals and will be an end-to-end affair. Chelsea had a tough time of it in the week against Barca, but they’ll be well up for this one.
I think Chelsea will nick it, so back the visitors at 21/10 and BTTS at 4/5.
It’ll be a comfortable win for Spurs when they visit Selhurst Park on Sunday where I’ve backed them to win 3-1 (50/1). I’d also get on over 3.5 goals at 9/5 – that is a proper weekend bet for you. Come on!!
You’ve got to love a bit of Vardz – WHAT A MAN! I think he’ll have plenty of opportunities to get in behind Stoke’s back line in the early Kick-Off on Saturday – he’s 10/3 with BetBright to score first and I’ve seen stranger things happen on a football pitch!
