Tottenham could spoil the start of Klopp’s new regime at Liverpool
Gerard Houllier is the only previous Liverpool manager to have won his first game in charge but Jurgen Klopp does have other history on his side. Liverpool have won their last five matches against Tottenham with an 18-4 aggregate. In those games, they’ve scored at least three times and all of the squad have been boosted by Klopp’s arrival at Anfield, though the Reds will again be without several key players at White Hart Lane.
Christian Benteke is still struggling and there is no Jordan Henderson. Danny Ings and Jo Gomez could miss the rest of the season with the latter having been injured while on duty with England’s U21’s in Kazakhstan, though Alberto Moreno has been preferred at full-back in recent matches.
The international break should have helped Daniel Sturridge edge closer to full fitness, however, and the England striker is likely to start as his team seek their first away win since the opening day of the season in north London.
Spurs haven’t lost in the league since the opening day and are a point ahead of Liverpool in the embryo Premier League table. But there have been plenty of draws with Everton and Stoke having already taken a point away from White Hart Lane.
We have priced up Liverpool at 15/8 to make a winning start under the former Borussia Dortmund coach. But he’s no miracle worker – he’s already tagged himself ‘ The Normal One’ – and Liverpool’s problems look deep-seated. It may take a while, and a transfer window or two, for Klopp to live up to levels of expectation and Tottenham are proving hard to beat this season in general.
We have Tottenham at 11/8 to win in our Full Time Result betting with the draw at 95/40. Spurs to win by one in our Winning Margins market is 3/1 and the home team are 31/20 to score first and win in our Matchflow betting.
The match kicks off at 12.45pm on Saturday, October 17th at White Hart Lane
