City should enjoy a return to home comforts
It’s seven years since Manchester City last lost three Premier League games in the same month but they are treading on thin ice after two defeats already in April, including that humiliation at Old Trafford a week ago. However, both of those defeats have been away from the Etihad and Manuel Pellegrini’s side are still a force to be reckoned with on home soil.
West Ham did beat City at Upton Park earlier in the campaign but have never done the double over the Sky Blues in the Premier League and their recent form is even worse than that of their higher-placed opponents.
Sam Allardyce’s team have suffered a miserable second half of the season. The Hammers headed into the winter as candidates for a place in Europe but have only won one of their 11 matches and haven’t won away from home in the Premier League since the start of December – had the season started at Christmas, they would have been in relegation trouble.
But Pellegrini’s squad should be big enough to cope and it could be worth backing former Hammer Frank Lampard to find the net against his former club at 8/5. Manchester City are 2/7 to rack up an 11th home win of the season in the Premier League and keep daylight between themselves and the chasing pack in the race for the final Champions League spot but can’t afford many more slip-ups between now and the end of the season. City are 14/5 to win by two-goal margin against the lacklustre Hammers.
The match kicks off at 1.30pm on Sunday, April 19 at the Etihad Stadium.
