Under-pressure Arsenal can thwart Manchester United’s bid for back-to-back victories at the Emirates
Manchester United are unbeaten on their last four visits to the Emirates but are bidding to win consecutive matches at the home of the Gunners for the first time – we have priced up Louis van Gaal’s team at 57/20 to be successful.
United went to the top of the Premier League table with victory over Sunderland last Saturday and got their Champions League challenge back on track on Wednesday with a narrow win over Wolfsburg at Old Trafford.
But, just 24 hours earlier, Arsenal had seen their own hopes of European glory all but go up in smoke as they were beaten 3-2 by Olympiakos in north London following a horror show from stand-in goalkeeper David Ospina.
It’s hard to know what to expect from Arsenal. Brilliant at times in last week’s big win at Leicester, in which Alexis Sanchez got his campaign up-and-running with a hat-trick. They were careless at best against Olympiakos, though Sanchez scored another suggesting he’s back to his best.
Wenger has a decision to make over whether Theo Walcott or Olivier Giroud starts as the main striker. Walcott has started the last five Premier League games and has the nod in Europe at present with the Frenchman suspended. But Giroud started Arsenal’s first three matches and will have benefited from a midweek rest. Patience over the manager’s often eccentric team selections has been wearing a bit thin among Gooners lately and Wenger needs a win against one of the big teams to restore faith.
United may have gone into October topping the table and fans are excited over the likes of Antony Martial (23/10 in our Anytime Goalscorer betting) and Memphis Depay. But this will be a big test and van Gaal will be hoping Michael Carrick is fit enough to add his experience to those around. Arsenal can further cloud the title race by taking all three points at 19/20. Arsenal scores first and Arsenal wins is 21/20 in our Matchflow market.
The match kicks off at 4.00pm on Sunday, October 4th at the Emirates
