However poor Chelsea’s Premier League season has been and it’s been very poor, they seem to doing OK in the Champions League. The English champions will have no problems in coasting to victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in Group G.
Chelsea need a win in this one to make it through the last 16 and they are just 6/17 to get it. If you like backing heavy odds-on, well this is like finding the readies in the street.
The Blues totally smashed their opponents 4-0 in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridges and they will have no trouble in turning them over again in their own back-yard, however I can’t see the scoreline being as comprehensive as the last time they met.
Maccabi have found this competition tough to say the very least and up against the best that Europe has to offer they look totally out of their depth.
The Israelis have only managed one goal in their four matches so far in Group G (that was a penalty) and I can’t honestly seem them scoring against a Chelsea defence that looked good in their last match.
I’m not saying that Jose Mourinho’s side were back to their best, but they will take a clean sheet against anyone right now. Up against a side that has only managed more than a single shot on target in a match in the Champions League once, they should be okay.
Goals will be at a premium in this one for sure and with only one side contributing to the attacking action both under 2.5 goals in the match and both teams to score as a “no” at 4/5 and 1/2 with BetBright both appeal.
Chelsea face a huge London derby against in-form Tottenham on Sunday and I really can’t see “The Special One” going all out to do a number on the group whipping boys. He will just want to get the three points, qualification and then get everybody back on the plane fit and well for Sunday’s show-down at White Hart Lane.
It was much more of a Mourinho-like performance against Norwich on Saturday and I can see a similar one on in this game. A dominant 1-0 Chelsea win at 4/1 with BetBright would be a bet that I will be getting involved in.
In the Norwich game, for the first time this season, Diego Costa looked like a player who wanted to play football rather than have a punch up. If he goes in with the same attitude against Maccabi, well he will certainly get on the score sheet again as he’s far too good against this class of opposition.
I like the Spanish international to open the scoring, hopefully with the only goal of the game at 16/5.
Under 2.5 Goals @ 4/5
Correct Score Chelsea 1-0 @ 41
Diego Costa First Goalscorer @ 16/5
