Posh can continue their unbeaten start under Robertson
A trip to Bramall Lane will be an early test of Peterborough United’s temporary coaching staff but spirits will be high after they beat fellow play-off hopefuls Bradford City at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday.
Darren MacAnthony will be in no hurry to find a permanent replacement for Darren Ferguson if results continue heading in the right direction and there was a lot of resilience in the United performance against the Bantams than previously under Ferguson.
Gabriel Zakuani celebrated his return to the starting line-up with a goal before Michael Bostwick converted a last-minute penalty. But let’s not get too carried away just yet as Posh had only taken one point from their previous three away games and haven’t scored in their last two.
But you could argue that a change of manager has given the players renewed confidence and Sheffield United have dropped an awful lot of points at home for a team that has held its own against Premier League opposition in cup competitions over the last two seasons. Only Bristol City and MK Dons have conceded fewer goals at home but they’ve won less than half of their 15 matches in South Yorkshire.
Nigel Clough’s side had to come from behind to earn a point at struggling Crawley on Saturday and were held by another team at the wrong end of the table, Coventry City, in their last home match.
They play on the counter-attack on the road and sometimes struggle to make the switch to the front foot at home so maybe Posh can frustrate them – the Bramall Lane faithful are not the most patient in League One and will let their team know if they think they should be doing better.
Dave Roberston is unlikely to make many changes after victory in his first game in charge, though Christian Burgess was possibly unlucky to get left out against Bradford. Harry Beautyman could be a possible inclusion if Robertson decides he needs to bolster his midfield.
Anything but a defeat would be a good result for Posh and they are fancied to blunt the Blades attack and bring home a point at 53/20. Under 3.5 total goals and the draw is 3/1 in the Matchbet + Totals market.
The match kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, March 3 at Bramall Lane.
