Lancashire derby is a real test of ‘Dale’s home form.
Rochdale lost to Preston North End in the Capital One Cup back in August but it’s fair to say that Keith Hill’s side have improved a fair bit since then. However, they continue to find goals hard to come by at Spotland and will have to be at the top of their game to deny the high-flying Lilywhites three points in this Lancashire derby.
‘Dale won easily at Yeovil last week after early goals from Jack O’Connell and Ian Henderson. The latter’s second-half strike was merely icing on the cake at Huish Park. But the Glovers are in dire form whereas Preston have been flying.
They won again at Leyton Orient in midweek and are now in the automatic promotion places. They’ll have a big following at Spotland and ‘Dale’s form at home has been their Achilles’ heel back in League One. They’ve only won two of their eight home games in all competitions and scored just seven goals – four of them came in one match against Walsall.
Peter Vincenti is unlikely to feature for a while so manager Hill won’t be contemplating too many changes for the visit of Simon Grayson’s team, who have only lost once in the league so far and have won four of their six away matches. Scott Wiseman, who played more than 100 matches for ‘Dale, is part of the visitors’ current squad.
Henderson, Vincenti and Matty Done continue to feature prominently in the League One goalscoring charts but Preston’s Joe Garner is already in double figures and will have to be kept under wraps if Rochdale are to take maximum points out of this local derby. ‘Dale are 19/10 with Preston ate 13/10 to keep up their winning run – the prolific Garner is 6/4 to get on the score-sheet in the 90 minutes.
The match kicks off at 3.00pm on Saturday, November 1st at Spotland.
