Can Posh batter the Cod Army?
Posh have lost their last two and that has taken a little wind out of their sails but they may have been presented with a decent opportunity to get back on track when they entertain Fleetwood Town this weekend.
The Cod Army arrives at London Road having failed to win any of their last seven games following a promising start to life in League One. Graham Alexander’s side had also been finding goals hard to come by prior to last week’s home game with Bristol City but ended a barren spell in fighting back to force a 3-3 draw with the leaders and could be dangerous if that has given their confidence a boost.
Peterborough’s own lack of goals lately must be a real concern for Darren Ferguson. His side are proving the model of inconsistency in terms of results this season, having won five and lost five, and have only managed one goal in their last three league games against teams that probably won’t be involved in the promotion race at the end of the campaign.
Luck has also deserted United, it seems, for had Marcus Maddison’s shot been ruled to have crossed the line at Yeovil last week, Posh would probably have taken the three points at Huish Park. Instead, they were undone by a last-minute goal which has seen them slip out of the automatic promotion places – several of the teams immediately below them also have a game in hand.
It looks like Jon Taylor and Christian Burgess are going to be out for a while but the loss of Kyle Vassell to a broken foot will probably hit Posh hardest of all.
The much-admired 22-year-old has been instrumental in most of their victories this season but could now miss up to 10 weeks and his prolonged absence may force the manager into tweaking his formation to accommodate replacements. Now would certainly be a good time for deadline-day signing Luke James to step up to the plate!
United are 4/5 to get back to winning ways but Fleetwood aren’t likely to commit too many men forward so backing two totals goals could pay dividends at 13/5.
The match kicks off at 3.00pm on Saturday, September 27th at London Road.
