Celtic could be frustrated again in the Europa League
Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has been appointed coach of Norway’s Molde for a second time, just in time to oversee their meeting with Celtic at the Aker Stadion.
Solksjaer succeeds Erling Moe, who has been in caretaker charge since Tor Ole Skullerud was sacked in August. Molde are currently only seventh in the Tippeligaen but have made a strong start to Group A of the Europa League having grabbed a surprise victory against Fenerbahce in Turkey before drawing with Ajax.
It’s Solksjaer’s first appointment since he was sacked by Cardiff but he will probably take a back seat for the match against the Hoops, who are also defending an unbeaten record in the competition so far having drawn both games to date.
Celtic’s players will be kicking themselves that they haven’t won at least once. They led against Ajax in Amsterdam until the closing stages and were two up against Fenerbahce at Celtic Park before half-time only to be pegged back.
But the Celtic manager is concerned that the goals have also dried up a little for his team, though they’ve scored two in each of their Group A matches to date – perhaps playing in Europe suits the way Celtic set out their stall nowadays.
Despite moderate domestic form, Molde are going well in the Europa League and will fancy their chances of progressing out of the group if they can beat Celtic. But the Scottish champions will also view this match as an opportunity for three points. In the circumstances, a draw could be the best option at 95/40 in our Full Time Result betting though Molde also make some appeal in our Handicap betting at 8/15 getting a goal start. Leigh Griffiths is 7/5 to be an Anytime Goalscorer for the Scots.
The match kicks off at 8.05pm on Thursday, October 22nd at Aker Stadion
