Liverpool’s second-string can scythe through Sion
Liverpool are struggling to get wins on the board and Brendan Rodgers is under pressure to turn things around. But his team, despite missing a number of regular starters, gained a creditable 1-1 draw in the Europa League opener at Bordeaux and we have priced the Reds up at 4/7 in our Full Time Result betting to see off FC Sion at Anfield.
The Swiss side are looking to emulate compatriots FC Basel, who drew on Merseyside in the Champions League last season before winning the reverse fixture. But Didier Tholot’s team lack the quality of Basel and fans with long memories won’t want to remember their last visit to Anfield, when they conceded six times.
Rodgers made a number of changes in Bordeaux and will again shuffle his pack for the visit of FC Sion. There’s a Merseyside derby upcoming on Sunday and Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke, Dejan Lovren and Roberto Firmino are all still injured.
Daniel Sturridge scored against Aston Villa last weekend but the England striker is still working his way back to full fitness and is unlikely to start against the Swiss. Adam Lallana is likely to be involved, however, and is 21/10 to be an Anytime Scorer – he scored in Bordeaux. Danny Ings is 5/4 in the same market.
Sion have shipped 20 goals in their last five away games in European competition and Liverpool’s second-string, which will still include the likes of Kolo Toure and James Milner, should enjoy a fairly comfortable night. The Reds are 17/5 to win by two in our Winning Margins market.
The match kicks off at 8.05pm on Thursday, October 1st at Anfield
