Celtic can take qualification down to their final match
There appears to be little standing in the way of yet another domestic league title for Celtic this season but their European campaign has been hugely disappointing. An early exit from the Champions League will be followed by a similar fate in the Europa League unless they can win their final two matches in Group A.
Back-to-back defeats by Molde has left the Bhoys in a precarious position. They’ve taken only two points from their four matches so it’s fortunate that they still have it in their power to determine their own destiny. The odds, however, look stacked against a miracle escape. European giants Ajax and Fenerbahce stand in their way of a place in the last 32, though Celtic led both in previous encounters and will be kicking themselves that they didn’t finish the job.
Ajax scored five against Cambuur in the Amsterdam ArenA at the weekend and put six past Roda JC in the Eredivisie at the end of last month. But, like Celtic, they’ve struggled in Europe.
Two matches against Fenerbahce yielded no goals and just a single point. They needed a late goal to rescue a draw against the Scots in their first meeting but are also in the position of needing a win to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Frank De Boer’s team is still a work in progress and that’s been reflected in their results this season. Celtic owe their fans a performance after the horror show against Molde and they should have won in Amsterdam so look the bet at 7/5 to win and end Ajax’s interest in the competition.
We have Both Teams To Score at 8/13 with Tom Rogic an interesting candidate in our Anytime Goalscorer betting at 13/5.
The match kicks off at 8.05pm on Thursday, November 26th at Celtic Park
