Wolves aiming to stop the rot against goal-shy Middlesbrough
Back-to-back defeats and six goals conceded mean it’s been a miserable week for Wolves’ fans. But we make them 11/5 in our Full Time Result betting to bounce back to winning ways against a Middlesbrough team that has also hit the buffers lately.
Aitor Karanka’s team were at the top of the table just before the international break but are without a win in three themselves and haven’t managed a goal either in that time.
Wednesday’s defeat against Brentford was particularly disappointing with too many players having off days. Emiliano Martinez, after letting in four at Derby last Sunday, looked short of confidence in goal and his nervousness seemed to spread throughout the entire back four.
Unfortunately, Kenny Jackett doesn’t have many options to change things at the back. Matt Doherty replaced Dominic Iorfa in the closing stages against the Bees and could come into the reckoning while Martinez looks ready for a rest so Carl Ikeme stands by.
But the attack is also misfiring with only Sheyi Ojo showing any real intent to get behind the Brentford defence. We have the Liverpool youngster at 4/1 to be an Anytime Goalscorer against a Middlesbrough side that doesn’t normally concede many goals and has Premier League experience up front with ex-England internationals David Nugent and Stewart Downing.
Jackett could have Dave Edwards available for this one with the midfielder ready to return after picking up an injury while on international duty with Wales. Jack Price could also add some steel to the Wolves midfield as it looks as though Connor Coady, Nathan Byrne and Jedd Wallace are all still struggling to come to terms with the pace of the Championship.
Boro don’t concede many goals, only eight so far which is the joint lowest in the Championship, but only five sides have scored more than Wolves this season in the second tier. However, Jackett’s men were beaten 3-0 by this weekend’s opponents in a Capital One Cup tie at the Riverside Stadium when both managers shuffled their pack.
We have priced up Under 2.5 in our Goals Over/Under market at 4/6 – Under 2.5 goals and the Draw in our Result Over/Under odds is 53/20 – and we have Wolves at 7/5 to score 1 in our Goals Home Team betting. The Draw in our First Half Result betting is Evens.
