Hillsborough draw could be on the cards between two out-of-form teams.
Stuart Gray is scouring the loan market for a replacement after a specialist confirmed that Sam Hutchinson won’t play again until next year following yet another setback. The midfielder’s ongoing problems have seen him make only fleeting appearances so far this season and Wednesday have missed his tenacity.
He only lasted seven minutes of the Owls’ defeat by Watford last Saturday and expert opinion dictates that he must now be rested.
Wednesday came away from Brentford with a creditable point on Tuesday but it could have been better had Stevie May’s first-half volley not hit the upright. The Bees also had a late effort ruled out for offside, however, so a draw was probably a fair result but it stretched the Yorkshire side’s winless run to six matches and they’ve only managed four goals in their last seven.
The early-season scoring run of Atdhe Nuhui has evaporated, though he was back in favour in midweek and could continue against Norwich City with Gary Madine failing to make the most of his chance.
Perhaps the manager is looking for a new striker to boost his options as the Wednesday squad is a lot lighter in numbers than many of the teams they are up against on a weekly basis.
Norwich were top of the table just a few weeks ago but their form has also tailed off a little lately. They’ve only managed one win in their last eight, at struggling Blackpool, but have won four out of six on the road in the Championship.
However, they’ll arrive at Hillsborough without Republic Of Ireland international Wes Hoolahan, who has suffered ligament damage, and short of confidence having being pegged back by Leeds in a bad-tempered game at Carrow Road on Tuesday.
Given the Canaries’ recent poor run, the Owls will be hoping to swoop for an overdue three points but neither side is likely to over-commit going forward. We’re predicting a low-scoring draw with the stalemate up for grabs at 9/4. An even number of goals is 4/5.
The match kicks off at 3.00pm on Saturday, October 25th at Hillsborough.
