Wednesday can cash in on Preston’s missing men to record a fourth straight victory
Honours have been pretty much shared down the years between two of the Football League’s senior clubs.
Sheffield Wednesday have won one more than Preston North End in 93 matches since 1892 but the Lilywhites have scored 10 more goals. However, it is the Owls who are favourites in our Full Time Result betting at Hillsborough this Saturday (11/10) having won their last three matches and scoring six goals in the process. Preston are currently in the relegation zone having only managed one win in the Championship this season and being without a victory in six.
To compound matters for the visitors, they will be without centre-back Bailey Wright and last season’s leading scorer Joe Garner – both are suspended after being sent-off in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves. Summer signing Jermaine Beckford is still injured and will also miss out.
Wednesday will be missing Jeremy Helan following his red card at Brentford last weekend but could still name an unchanged starting XI as the French defender was only a substitute at Griffin Park.
Preston’s Stevie May could start against his former club at Hillsborough but Chris Kirkland is likely to be on the bench again for Simon Grayson’s team. Former Wednesday loanee Will Keane will also be involved but Marnick Vermijl won’t be allowed to play because of the conditions of his loan.
A 2-0 correct score at 15/2 could offer some value in South Yorkshire with Preston, who look short of firepower without Garner, priced up at 29/20 to score 0 in our Goals Away Team betting.
The match kicks off at 3.00pm on Saturday, October 3rd at Hillsborough
