Sheffield Wednesday look value to improve a modest record at Loftus Road
Home fans may not have got the win they wanted from Saturday’s game with Hull City but they certainly got value for money from an end-to-end match which could have gone either way in the closing stages.
It’s now five matches unbeaten for Sheffield Wednesday and, given Hull are one of the favourites promotion, confirmation that Carlos Carvalhal’s team have the quality to go toe-to-toe with any team in the Championship.
Carvalhal would have been disappointed that his team couldn’t hold on after taking a first-half lead against the Tigers through Fernando Forestieri and dominating the opening 45 minutes. But the game was another indicator that the Championship is wide-open this season.
Wednesday get an early opportunity to get back to winning ways when they travel to Loftus Road to face Queens Park Rangers this Tuesday. Another team relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, the R’s still have plenty of players with top-flight experience on their books, and one or two internationals. But it’s not been all plain sailing for Chris Ramsey’s side back in the Championship and the manager’s job is under scrutiny again.
But Wednesday will be concentrating on their own game and the opportunity to edge closer to the play-off places. QPR have the worst defensive record in the Championship and are still missing top scorer Charlie Austin so it could pay the Owls to go for the jugular in west London.
Atdhe Nuhui’s physical presence would cause problems for the Rangers’ defence but Barry Bannan and Sam Hutchinson will have to work hard to close down the home team’s talented midfield – this may not be the type of match in which either Lewis McGugan or Ross Wallace excels. Alex Lopez would be a viable alternative.
Wednesday haven’t won at Loftus Road since 2001 but have been in much better form than their hosts lately and we have priced them up at 19/10 to take all three points on Tuesday in our Full Time result betting. Both Teams To Score is 8/11 with Over 1.5 in the 2nd Half Over/Under market available at 21/20. In-form Forestieri is 9/4 to be an Anytime Goalscorer.
The match kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, October 20th at Loftus Road
