Wolves will need to tighten up to get a result in Cardiff
Wolves’ defensive frailties resurfaced against QPR on Wednesday evening and will need to be addressed if they are to challenge for a play-off-place again this season.
Kenny Jackett’s team cruised into a two-goal lead against recently-relegated Rangers and looked well on their way to all three points but fell away badly after the interval and ended up with nothing to show for their efforts.
Maybe the transfer interest in Benik Afobe is proving a distraction – Norwich made a bid for the much sought-after England U21 striker on the eve of the match – though it doesn’t appear to be concerning the player himself. He was on the score-sheet again against the R’s and Jackett has reiterated he is not for sale.
Wolves fans will certainly be hoping that the manager is true to his word as you would imagine that Afobe would be key to their team’s promotion chances this term. There is a swift turnaround and a trip down into Wales this weekend with a visit to the City Of Cardiff Stadium to take on Cardiff City.
Wanderers will have to keep City’s Peter Whittingham in check as he’s usually the supply line for their strikers. Cardiff have plenty of options in the striking department and that is a worry for the visitors given their current defensive frailties. Jack Price could be recalled to midfield to offer a little more protection to the back four.
This looks a tricky test for Wolves but they need to take something out of the game and we have priced up the draw at 43/20. Afobe to score the first goal again is 5/1.
The match kicks off at 5.15pm on Saturday, August 22nd at the City Of Cardiff Stadium
