Improving Wednesday can inflict another defeat on the injury-hit Bees
The green shoots of a Sheffield Wednesday revival which began at Burnley two weeks ago and started to show above the ground at Bolton a few days later are suddenly starting to blossom after back-to-back victories against decent opposition.
The Owls’ defeat of Premier League Newcastle in the Capital One Cup during the week wasn’t entirely unexpected – the Magpies look a poor excuse for a top-flight team this year – but confidence will have received a massive shot in the arm and the more games the merrier for Wednesday at present as it gives Carlos Carvalhal an excuse to fully utilise his huge squad.
Lewis McGugan scored his team’s winner at St James’ Park on Wednesday but has barely figured in the Championship over the last six weeks. The summer signing will be hoping he’s made a point with the manager but is one of several who could be disappointed again when the team is named for this weekend’s trip to Brentford.
Marinus Dijkhausen was always going to find it tough succeeding the popular Mark Warburton in the hot seat at Brentford and hasn’t been helped by a crippling early-season injury crisis or the sale of star players Stuart Dallas and Andre Gray. But his team won for the first time in five games at home to Preston last week, though they still haven’t managed to keep clean sheet this season.
Wednesday will go Brentford full of confidence and can inflict a fifth defeat of the campaign in league and cup on the Bees at 39/20 in our Full Time Result betting. Both Teams to score is 4/6.
The match kicks off at 3.00pm on Saturday, September 26th at Griffin Park
