Wednesday need to close down Rhodes to win at Ewood Park
Several of those teams in and around the top six are playing each other this weekend and victory over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday could see Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off places at the full-time whistle.
The Owls go into the next round of fixtures just a point behind sixth-placed Birmingham City. Carlos Carvalhal demanded a response from his players against Huddersfield last week after their unbeaten run was ended at Charlton and, though it took a while, Wednesday got back to winning ways with three goals in the final 12 minutes.
Wednesday have signed Liverpool teenager Will Marsh on a youth loan this week but he’ll have to bide his time in the development squad at the moment.
Blackburn sacked manager Gary Bowyer earlier this month and almost immediately appointed former Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert as his replacement. His tenure got off to a winning start at Preston and the Scot will be introduced to home fans at Ewood Park before Saturday’s game starts but Wednesday supporters will also be out in force with only a short trip across the Pennines.
Honours have been shared between these teams since Blackburn were relegated from the Premier League, with two wins apiece and two draws from six games – the away side won both fixtures last season 2-1. Wednesday are 41/4 to repeat that scoreline this Saturday and 95/40 to win in our Full Time Result betting with the draw at 11/5 – a better bet may be the 4/6 in our Handicap betting for Wednesday to win with a goal start.
Jordan Rhodes, a reported Wednesday transfer target, will be a threat to the Owls’ hopes of a victory but the visitors could grab all three points if they can keep the Scottish striker under wraps, though one of our featured bets is Both Teams To Score at 10/11 – only one of the teams’ last five meetings has ended goalless and those four matches produced at least three goals. We have priced up Over 2.5 in our Goal Over/Under market at 23/20.
The match kicks off at 3.00pm on Saturday, November 28th at Ewood Park
