Chelsea need to avoid defeat against Dynamo in Kiev
Jose Mourinho must have run out of other people to blame for Chelsea’s malaise as he finally decided to do what he’s paid for ahead of Saturday’s win over Aston Villa and make some tough decisions.
Referees, the FA, Arsene Wenger and the press have all been getting treatment from ‘The Special One’ over the last few weeks with the Blues looking a far cry from the team that ran away with the Premier League title last year. On past evidence, it’s entirely possible that Mourinho was simply trying to take the pressure of his players but his patience finally seems to have snapped with a few of the big names in the Stamford Bridge dressing room.
Eden Hazard, who by his own admission has been well below his best, Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic were all left out against Villa and Chelsea got back to winning ways. Mourinho has said performances are not going to be pretty while his team get back on track and he’d probably settle for avoiding defeat in the Champions League at Dynamo Kiev this week.
This is the first time these teams have met but Dynamo have played English opposition five times since they beat Arsenal in 2003. Unfortunately, they’ve lost four and managed just one draw out of those matches. Serhiy Rebrov’s team lost a big game to Shakhtar Donetsk at the weekend, which may have dented confidence after a four-match winning run, but Chelsea can’t allow Andriy Yarmolenko to get on the ball as the midfielder will cause problems given too much space. With Matic apparently out of favour, Jon Obi Mikel may be the man tasked with tying up the middle with Cesc Fabregas pushed further forward.
We have priced up the Draw/Draw in the Half Time/Full Time at 7/2 but Both Teams to Score could also be a decent bet at 3/4 with a 1-1 Correct Score available at 43/10.
The match kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, October 20th at the Olympic Stadium, Kiev
