Arsenal have the class to end Dinamo Zagreb’s long unbeaten run
Dinamo Zagreb are unbeaten in 41 domestic matches stretching back to November last year but the Croatian champions have an appalling record against English opposition and in the Champions League in general.
They have lost their previous six games against English teams and have played 15 Champions League matches without managing a victory since overcoming Austria’s Sturm Graz in September 1999.
Zoran Mamic’s current side did claim the Croatian title last season without suffering defeat, however, and their domination no signs of coming to an end judged on their 4-0 defeat of local rivals Lokomotiva on Friday.
Their Maksimir Stadium can be a hostile place for visiting teams but Mamic will be without key man Goncalo Santos due to suspension and the Gunners should have enough about them to get a result if they can shackle young striker Marko Pjaca, who already has three goals in Champions League.
The Londoners have won both previous meetings with Zagreb, however, and seem to be getting their act together after an inconsistent start to their Premier League campaign – Saturday’s win over Stoke was their third in four matches and a third clean sheet in a row.
Wenger may be prepared to start Theo Walcott as a central striker again in Croatia with Olivier Giroud waiting in the wings and there is a wealth of talent just behind the front men, though Jack Wilshere has suffered a setback in his recovery.
Dinamo’s impressive domestic record counts for little at this level and Arsenal should make a winning start at 40/85 in our Full Time Result betting. Dinamo are Evens in our Goals Home Team market to score 0.
The match kicks off at 7.45pm on Wednesday, September 16th at the Macksimir Stadium, Zagreb
