Desirée Rogério de Carvalho – a folk figure of the Maracanã and a true superfan – is the living breathing heart of Brazilian club side, Fluminense.
Desiree is a mechanic by trade and has filled his workshop with items that show his support for La Guerreiros, the Rio de Janerio club, where he also sits on the board.
Such is his obsession with his team, the mechanic failed to show up at his own wedding because he decided that going to a Fluminense game was much more more important. And who could blame him?
His wife forgave him at the time but, believe it or not, they have since divorced.
He also has one daughter who he tries to pass his love of his club onto.
Desiree is known to wear the Fluminense red, white and green as his day to day outfit and is a well-recognised figure throughout the city.
He paints his nails on a day-to-day basis in his team’s colours, too. To show his fanaticism, Desiree went as far as to implant teeth in the Fluminense colours so if he gives you a smile, you’re going to get a blast of red, white and green, rather than your average pearly glow.
Unfortunately he’s not a big Facebook and Twitter user due to the WiFi signal surrounding his favela in Brazil but he is regularly on TV and in newspapers as one of the city’s iconic footy fans.
