January 2025 - Upcoming events
It’s the start of a new year of sport with some big highlights of 2025 being the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Ashes cricket, the Cheltenham Festival and Six Nations plus the start of a new F1 season. But before all of that, there’s more immediate action to look forward to in January.
The climax of the Darts World Championship is coming up right from January 1st which is when all the quarter-final matches are played. The following day sees the two semi-finals settled, before the big match itself, the Darts World Championship Final, is played on the evening of January 3rd.
The famous Third Round of the FA Cup will be a big highlight of January’s football action. The Premier League clubs will join the action and the biggest tie of the round is Arsenal vs Manchester United, the two most successful clubs in the history of the competition.
Sticking with football, the last two match days of the UEFA Champions League first round will be completed in late January, with the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich looking to find safe passage through to the next stage. The 2024 Asian Cup in Qatar kicks off on January 12th.
Tennis will be in big focus in early January, with the ATP and WTA both on show in Adelaide in what is the build-up to the Australian Open later in the month. The Grand Slam action runs from January 12th to 26th from Melbourne.
There is plenty of golf on show during the month, including the DP World Tour Team Cup in Dubai, along with The Sentry and Sony Open events in Hawaii. Later in the month, the popular PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open will tee off.
Big skiing and snowboarding action will be spotlighted from Aspen, Colorado from January 23rd to 25th featuring the world’s top winter sports athletes. At the end of January the AFC and NFC Championship American Football matches, which decide who goes to February’s Super Bowl, will be contested.
