Nick Luck continues to be in super form for BetBright Blog readers as another big priced winner went in on Saturday with El Hayem landing the big handicap at Sandown…
The Newmarket July Meeting kicks off on Thursday and Nick has four crackerjacks for followers to get stuck into.
PRINCESS OF WALES’S ARQANA RACING CLUB STAKES (GROUP 2) 3.35pm
Let’s start with the feature and probably the safest bet of the day lines up here in the form of Poet’s Word for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore. It’s easy to think Frontiersman improved massively in the Coronation at Epsom behind Highland Reel but I’m not sure that form will stack up for him. I didn’t like the way he was making up all the ground late on from the back and he makes the market for the selection.
Poet’s Word has always been held in the highest regard by Sir Michael and Ryan is back on replacing Andrea Atzeni for this. He should have won at Chester and has been kept back since then and I make him the nap today at around 100/30.
BAHRAIN TROPHY STAKES (GROUP 3) 1.50pm
The Bahrain Trophy kicks off proceedings at 1.50pm and everybody knows Atty Persse did us a huge favour at Royal Ascot when we had him to win the King George V Stakes. He did that well and I have huge respect for him here but I think Godolphin’s runner Wolf Country might just take the beating at a better price.
He was a sacrificial lamb in the Dante behind Permian and there should be plenty more to come given an easier ride here. Not seen since and this colt out of a Black Sam Bellamy mare should enjoy the conditions. 7/1 or so is a very fair price for this Charlie Appleby and William Buick charge and I think he will run well.
(July) Arqana July Stakes (Group 2) 2.25pm
It’s clear that Rajasinghe is the one to beat after his win in the Coventry but it might pay to look for one who has had a little less of a hard time in the run up to this. Invincible Army is a decent price for James Tate and Silvestre De Sousa and he comes in off the back of a taking victory at this track last month which was a nice step up on a debut second at Goodwood in May.
Has shown a sharp turn of foot already and he is the one to be with in a tricky little race at around 7/1.
(July) bet365 Handicap (Class 2) 3.00pm
I think Victory Angel is the forgotten horse in the handicap at 3.00pm. Roger Varian’s three year old looked to be a really improving sort first time up when very impressive on the Rowley course here. Stuck into the Coronation Cup last time behind Caravaggio where he didn’t disgrace himself and that does tell you that connections must think plenty of him. He looks potentially well handicapped on the basis of that first run and under Andrea Atzeni doesn’t appear to be badly drawn either.
He could be the type to win this well or blow out completely so at the double figure odds I feel he is worth chancing.
Four for Thursday at Newmarket:
1.50 Wolf Country
2.25 Invincible Army
3.00 Victory Angel E/W
3.35 Poet’s Word
