What a way to kick off the Premier League! The Champions losing at home, Jose’s United firing on all cylinders and a 4-3 thriller at the Emirates!
This season is going to be a good one and I am back to give you your winning accumulator tips for the weekend!
Swansea City v Man United
United look blinding don’t they! Pogba looked great and how about the big man, Lukaku!
He was uncontrollable – he was everything I was expecting: he had hunger, strength in abundance and I really think he is going to be a 30 goal a season player.
I know we’ve only had one game, but United look really strong this year and after their 0 – 0 last week, the only thing The Swans have got going for them is the home advantage, but United will be too powerful for them.
This one is Bullard’s Banker of the weekend and I’m going for a 3-0 win to United!
Bournemouth v Watford
This is a tough one to call!
I’ve always liked the look of Watford going forward and they look like they’re going to score goals. They put three past Liverpool last week so they could be dangerous again against Bournemouth.
I don’t think Bournemouth have the rawness and edge that Watford have – The Cherries are a good footballing side but that doesn’t always get you over the line.
I guarantee that Watford will score two goals against Bournemouth and I can’t see the home side putting three past the visitors.
Leicester City v Brighton
This is the toughest one for me to call this week!
The Foxes are at home and the big pitch will suit them, but Brighton also play open, attacking football so we’re guaranteed goals in this one.
Vardy looks like he’s going to be an animal this year, after scoring two at Arsenal last week. He’s quick, looks hungry and, just like Lukaku, his ears will be pricked up after making the score sheet last week.
I’m not writing Brighton off though so I’m going for a score draw here: 2-2.
Southampton v West Ham
With all due respect to Southampton, these are the games that West Ham have got to go and win if they want to break into the top 8 in the league.
I think the mighty Hammers have got enough to be beating them and if the little man up top, Chica-chica-rito, is on form they should be ok – but they’ve got to be ‘at it’.
The Saints have said that van Dijk isn’t for sale, but they never are until they’re offered £20m more than they’re worth – if I was a Saints fan, I’d want this issue resolved ASAP.
Liverpool v Crystal Palace
Palace got absolutely battered by Premier League new boys, Huddesrfield last week, so you’ve got to back Liverpool here. It’s also the first game of the season at Anfield which will be absolutely bouncing.
The Coutinho saga drags on and I’m not having this ‘sore back’ excuse for not playing. He wants to go to Barcelona so the sooner the deal is done, then Klopp can kick on with the job in hand.
I do think Liverpool are a little bit weak at the back, which was proven by conceding three goals last week, but they’ll be too strong for Palace, especially at home.
Burnley v West Brom
What a fantastic result for Burnley last week!!! How about that!!
I said there’s always a swerve ball on the opening weekend but no one was expecting them to beat Chelsea, especially with their away record last season!
The question now is whether they can carry it on. That result will have pricked their ears up and for that reason I’m going for a Burnley win.
Saying that, football can be weird and Burnley may find themselves having a great record on the road and end up being awful at home. It happened to me at Wigan: first season we were awesome at the JJB and then in the second season, we were rubbish at home but brilliant on the road– work that out!
Stoke City v Arsenal
This is my swerve-ball of the weekend here.
Arsenal’s defence looked very nervy last week and they conceded 3 goals at home, which isn’t good at all.
Stoke are at home and have signed Jese on loan from PSG, who I think could cause them a few problems. They have been a bit of a bogey team for Wenger’s boys over the years and they never love a trip up there.
Everyone might be getting just a bit carried away with the last-minute winner, so I can certainly see an upset here.
Huddersfield v Newcastle
Beating Palace 3-0 away from home will give Huddersfield such a lift, especially as it was their first match in the top flight and to take that back to your home ground is just fantastic for their confidence.
Benitez isn’t happy with his side at the moment either, he’s screaming out for more players and thought he’d have more money to spend, so he obviously thinks there are significant weaknesses in his side that need addressing.
Tottenham v Chelsea
Everyone’s writing Chelsea off already which is a bit of a joke to be honest.
They’ve had one game, which don’t get me wrong, was a car crash, but people forget they played most of the game without their Captain and main Centre Back, Cahill. If you play with three at the back and that happens, you’ll always struggle.
I’ve seen every pundit jumping on Chelsea’s back saying that they’re really going to struggle this season – really?!
WIND YOUR NECKS IN! These games can happen, especially at the start of the season. People forget that Chelsea lost two of their first six games last season before they went on to win the League, so don’t write them off just yet.
They’re obviously better than what people are giving them credit for and you can’t change that much in two months.
Matic is very replaceable and they’ve got Bakayoko to take his place which is a like-for-like change, so from a Chelsea perspective, I wouldn’t have an issue there.
Kante is the main man in Chelsea’s midfield and he just needs another defensive midfielder to give him cover, which I think Bakayoko will be more than capable of.
I was never a huge fan of Diego Costa and there are much better strikers out there – 100%!! Alvaro Morata bagged on his Premier League debut which people don’t really talk about so I think he’ll be one to watch this season too.
I still think Chelsea will win the league and at 7/1 with BetBright, that’s a great shout.
It’ll be interesting to see how Spurs get on at Wembley and it’s a big first test for them with the Champions coming to play on Sunday.
Man City v Everton
This Monday night match will be a very good game and I like the look of City – Pep’s side look great and he really fancies it this season.
I reckon there’ll be goals here and I can see City getting 3 at home. City are too good going forward this year – they will concede goals, but their attack is very impressive.
Jesus looks dangerous and Aguero is always a proper threat, so there’s no shortage of goal scorers in their side.
