Ready for a Jimmy Bullard Banker and a Wild Card shout this weekend with the Premier League back in full flow? Let’s get cracking then…
Man City v Liverpool – 12.30pm Sat
What a belter to start with and a difficult game to call, no question. I have to say I fancy Man City’s squad far more than Liverpool’s but credit to LFC, they’ve held on to the little man Coutinho and that’s a big statement from the club. I’m going to go for City though, I think they will push very close to the title this year and can prove too strong in the opener this weekend. It won’t be a rollover but especially at home I think they can edge it by a goal.
Arsenal v Bournemouth – 3pm Sat
Hold up. If Arsenal lose this game then it’s meltdown there isn’t it?
I’m going for the Wild Card with the game because of the way they have been so far this season. The players are not putting a shift in for the manager and the wheels could be about to come right off. It’s very much upside down for the Gunners. This weekend they’ll be putting their socks on in the changing room and thinking we are expected to drub these but they will know what a big ask that is in their current form.
Eddie Howe has to be thinking they won’t get a better time to line up against the Arsenal so I am predicting another surprise – even if it won’t shock you all!
The crowd will be important here, 0-0 after 15 to 30mins with Bournemouth getting stuck in and it could get a bit nasty in the air. I think the Cherries can nick a result.
Brighton v West Brom – 3pm Sat
Brighton at home should be up to winning this. Chris Houghton knows these are the games they need to be getting maximum points and whilst I always respect a Pulis team I’m siding with a home win and a few goals to boot.
Everton v Tottenham – 3pm Sat
Score draw written all over this. Tottenham really needed a win to kick start things at Wembley and couldn’t get over the line against Burnley. That will hurt for a little bit yet and this away from home might see them play with a bit more freedom. Everton have done wonders in the window and it’s showing on the pitch, a really good team and a Koeman starting to reap dividends of time at the helm. Another game with goals in it and I’ll go for a share of the points.
Leicester v Chelsea – 3pm Sat
I was with Vardy this week, he’s a more quiet lad than you would imagine and it was a bit dissapointing for him he didn’t get a run with England over the International Break. A few seem to want to jump the Leicester ship these days, Drinkwater gone and Mahrez was angling for the same so it’s a quieter time now for the Foxes that is for sure. Chelsea had a wobble but look strong since and I think they can be champions again this season if I’m honest. They should have too much and head home with three points here.
Southampton v Watford – 3pm Sat
Two very similar teams in terms of stature and ambitions this season. The table will likely reflect that at the end and both will need to be careful not to take a foot off the gas and maintain that mid table security with an eye upwards rather than down. The Saints at home should just about edge it, it wont be easy but the odd goal will be enough.
Stoke v Man Utd – 5.30pm Sat
Man U have shown the most promise so far this season in the handful of games played. A bit like the juggaurnaut of old without being tested to thier limits yet. Jose would not have wanted the International Break as they were flying going into it and looked a bit untouchable. I think they will keep another clean sheet and score a few so no surprises here whatsover, this is the Bullard Banker this week and an away win.
Burnley v Crystal Palace – 1.30pm Sunday
Palace are trying to play the right way this year and it’s not easy, the results look terrible but I’d hope, and expect, that the gaffer will be given time to make it happen. Christmas is usually the chopping point if he can’t get a message across so we will see. Burnley at home is not easy for any team in this league to take points from so I’m sticking with a home win and more short term problems for Palace.
Swansea v Newcastle – 4pm Sun
Clement must have some decent contacts, been in the game for a good while and picking up the boy Renato Sanches is some coup. He needs to deliver but watch him, he might be a magic addition to the league and I hope he thrives. They lost Gylfi so something had to happen. As for Newcastle it’s a Manager v Chairman situation again, we’ve seen it so many times and it does effect them on the pitch. They need to get together and concentrate on the football. I fancy the Swans here.
West Ham v Huddersfield – 8pm Monday
I’m not a big fan of the shape of my team this year, I love West Ham but this doesn’t look like a West Ham set up. Lacking pace for sure and a bit of drive for me and whilst I think we will get a win against Huddersfield it wont be easy for Bilic’s side. The Terriers have started brilliantly and are playing with freedom and confidence so all credit to them. The first year can be like that and they need to ride it for as long as possible before expectancy creeps in – tougher in a second season but they have to earn that first.
Good luck boys and girls!
