Can Real exact revenge on last’s year’s Champions?
In the first of tonight’s Copa del Rey semi-final clashes, Real host Atletico at the Bernabeu in what should prove a mouthwatering display of attacking prowess from both sides.
The same two sides contested last season’s final, with Atletico prevailing to win 2-1 in a heated affair which saw former coach Jose Mourinho sent to the stands for disssent.
Rather unfairly sent-off in the weekend’s La Liga win over Athletic Bilbao, Cristiano Ronaldo is available for this cup tie and should lead the line for Los Vikingos. Also expected to feature is fit-again Welsh wing wizard, Gareth Bale who returns from a spell on the sidelines through a calf injury.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real team host Diego Simeone’s Athletico in the Copa on the back of an impressive 22-match unbeaten run, one Diego Costa and co. will be keen to reset. Having won here once already this season, back in September, if anyone can do it; it’s Los Colchoneros.
Former Barca hitman David Villa is a doubt for La Liga leaders Atletico after limping off injured during Sunday’s routine 4-0 win over struggling Real Sociedad.
Atletico will look to make history as the first team to record three successive defeats over Real this evening and with a constant goal threat in the form of Costa up front, it is not beyond the realms of possibility. As ever, Atletico Madrid will be typically disciplined in defence, applying pressure on Madrid throughout and will look to intercept possession in advanced positions and launch high-speed attacks from advanced positions. Their style of play has been a pleasure to watch this season and expect a strong counter attack to feature prominently if Real push men forward.
In our featured Copa del Rey odds we have Atletico at 3/1 to enter the history books with a win, whereas the home side are a generous 21/25 to win this first-leg home encounter.
Both teams to score at 19/25 looks the bet of the night for us, as we predict another free-flowing affair. Ronaldo first goal is always a decent bet and we’ve got him at 5/2 if you see value in the Portuguese delivering yet again.
To make tonight’s Copa del Rey action even more exciting, we have an excellent money back promotion on the first goalscorer insurance market; if the game finishes in a draw. The usual terms apply, see our Copa del Rey betting markets for further details.
Kick-off is at 7pm UK time, best of luck with your bets!
